The Theatre Arts Program at Yorktown is committed to teaching students all aspects of theatre, including acting, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting and technical theatre. Students are part of an ensemble that stays together as they progress through a conservatory-style training. Each year-long course builds upon the prior year’s work. All students at all levels of study have opportunities to perform.

Philosophy – “It’s not about you!”

YHS’s Theatre Arts Program is dedicated to the personal development of the individual student and the values of creative collaboration and ensemble-building. The department’s motto—“It’s not about you!”—means that each student’s worth is measured by his or her contribution to the group effort. Read more »

We offer a four-year theatre arts curriculum and three levels of technical theatre.  Read more »

Performance opportunities

Students in the Theatre Arts curriculum have opportunities to perform in several shows, and all Yorktown students may audition for Yorktown’s Spring Show.  Students may also audition for the 28th Street Improv troupe.  Read more about YHS shows.

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the world’s largest honor society for theatre students.  Read more »
