2017 One Person Shows

Yorktown curricular theatre students put on a variety of shows each year, including Theatre IV’s One Person Shows and Theatre I,  II, and IV’s One Act shows.  All Yorktown students may audition for the Annual Show, which is a musical every other year.

One Person Shows (Theatre IV)

Theatre Arts IV is a performance year, where students apply knowledge from preceding theatre courses to develop an original 30-minute One Person Show based on an historical or literary character.  Each student researches and writes a script, designs sets and properties, and produces and performs their piece.  Be sure to attend our One Person Show Marathon on March 23 2019!

Annual Show (by audition – open to all Yorktown students)

Each year — usually in the spring but in December this school year — the Theatre Department produces a show that involves the entire student body.  This year’s show was the musical Mama Mia! Recent productions include: Almost, Maine; Pippin; The True Adventures of Pinocchio; West Side Story; Alice in Wonderland; The Wizard of Oz; Aida; James and the Giant Peach; Peter Pan; Seussical; and The Secret Garden.  These shows allow students of all ability levels to use their creativity, develop technique, and work cooperatively with a diverse group of people.

Theatre Festival One Act Show (Theatre IV and Technical Theatre)

Advanced theatre students have the opportunity to perform in a one act play for district, regional, and/or state high school theatre festivals. (Read more about these festivals.) The public is invited to attend early performances of these shows, with the opportunity to offer comments to the director and ask the cast questions.  This year’s show was Perfect.

Theatre II One Act Show

Each year, the Theatre II class produces a contemporary American one act play with accessible content and text.  These shows are truly an ensemble effort exemplifying the “It’s not about you” philosophy of Yorktown Theatre Arts.  This year’s show is In a Strange Land.  Productions have included: Losing Faith; Graduation for Dummies!; Darcy’s Cinematic Life; Snow Angel; Things Fall (Meanwhile); The Long View; 15 Reasons Not To Be In A Play; Play the Hand that’s Dealt; Bad Auditions by Bad Actors; Perfect; Check Please; Cut; Cave Dreams; This is a Test; Curtain Call to Arms; and Candid Shots.  This year’s Spring One Act will be on March 7.

Theatre I One Act Show

This year, the Theatre I class will produce a one act play: This is a Test.
